As I was searching different blogs about digital marketing, I came across this quote that caught my attention: “A brand is no longer what we tell the consumer it is — it is what consumers tell each other it is.” (Scott Cook)
In the world of social media today, everyone is interconnected and is in the “know” of what is happening all over the world. Someone in the United States can hear about an event occurring in China in just a matter of minutes. Just as news can travel rapidly, the reputation of a brand can travel just as quickly. Word-of-mouth recommendations have always been a powerful and effective tool for marketers, but now, the voice of the consumer is ever more present and powerful.
Today, there are blogs and websites solely for the reviews of business and brands where consumers can share their opinions and make recommendations to not only their friends, but the entire world. Most people read reviews before they purchase a product or eat at a restaurant affirming the idea that how a brand is communicated between consumers is just if not more important than how the brand markets itself.
Companies must be quick on their feet in today’s society to not only market their brand in the way they want to, but to be sure they deliver and produce results that meet and exceed the expectations of their consumers.
